Why do we do it?

First away trip of the year. Meet the boys in an archetypal London boozer for a couple of pints and then a brisk walk  to savour the delights of The New Den. 442 of us hardy souls were penned in to the North Stand to see Col U's defence put up the most inept defensive display I have ever seen. We were tonked  4-1. The  ref must have taken pity cos at about 89 minutes our keeper seemed to clean out the forward who had again mugged the last man. Pen and red? No, just a telling off to the forward and shortly after our misery was over.

Back on to the sardine crush nightmare of Transport for London's  canning factory and the human zoo of the Weatherspoons at Liverpool Steet. Eldest son buys old man a meal and a pint..my role as head of the pack petering out. On to the train back to Norwich and beyond. Things going well until somewhere before Shenfield. Driver had lost communication with the tractor unit pushing the train. Took 35 minutes to fix. Diss,  snow settling. Head count of passengers with onward connection to Sheringham and a decision to hold the connection. A little ray of light in the stygian gloom.

  2. I hate trains. The last journey I did was Leeds to Oxford. Train pulls into Birmingham. 'We have a fault' says the guard. 'Please go to platform 32 for your connection which leaves in three minutes' we were on platform 2. Just made it, nowhere to sit having paid for a reserved seat. Breaks down at Banbury and then a bus to Oxford where the twat tries to drop us the Park and Ride. Near riot, he did take us. BB you are right they are shite. Add that to the list ES. Sounds like the U's defence were too.

    Bloody cold here. John

    1. I'll not have that TT. They're crap when there's a problem, but I love travelling by train. Less aggro than a car most of the time. Sit back and relax ( when you've got a seat ).

  3. You can eat parsnips now John, they've had a frost on them. We have 14 trains in Greater Anglia when 26 are required. They blame the track damaging the wheels. Railtrack thumb their noses. We pay through ours.

    What defence?

    1. Generally they're shite. Sorry ES. BB, you are right they thumb their nose noses and we are buggered by them. Tried to keep that clean, sorry.

Stations where you can't park for a drop off. Ridiculous. Not allowed unless you pay, sir. Patronising twat. Well we have paid says I, for a first class ticket for the 95 year old mum-in-law. The car park is about two hundred yards down the road, sir. Everybody has to use it. Sorry my jobsworth acquaintance you find a copper to implement your rules and I have not been honoured by the Queen or the PM.

Street fighting man starts to get cross at this point. Boss tries to quieten things down. I point out that in the time he's been arguing we could have sorted mum out and I could have parked. Your on film, sir. You'll be fined. Handbrake on. I don't care I'll appeal. BR man photographed on phone, your on film says I. You can't do that. Stop me. You've done it to me. Silence.

Right I'm going to park down the road, two hundred yards down the road. When I get back have the BT Police here.

When I get back there's no one to be seen. Funny that. ES I don't like trains. Unless Michael Portillo is on one.

Another day, another jobsworth and another rant.

Fishing tomorrow and a new gun to test…

      John

PS The Boss says I'm unreasonable. Rubbish.

    2. That, I have to say, is an excellent rant TT ( or SFM ). Your self righteous rage reminds me of someone......oh yes, me. Top marks. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light".

  4. A train journey without all the baggge is something to savour. Can't even begin to contemplate what a Mega Bus journey to London would be like, even if it is only £4 And it has to be SFM from now on. Very reasonable I'd say.
