Circular argument

Yesterday's pike was Kevin from the previous trip. So moved a mill and 3 miles down to find some more predatory action today. I had in mind a stretch that has been productive on the perch front in the past. River very clear so started bait snatching in the Aquarium.  As I peered into the considerable depths two decent perch were harrying the smaller stuff. I couldn't get past the better roach and dace and my paternoster rod was still in the car.

Eventually a passer by was entrusted with my gear and I went back to the charabanc for the perch gear. Shallowed up and got enough smaller samples in the livebait bucket. This chub didn't last long

as a fast take indicated the likely culprit. Not Kevin and  a very small landing net . Perfectly hooked in the scissors with the circle hook well in.

A biblical deluge and a reasonably full bucket of livelies later I doubled back and found the previously reliable spot up the stretch.  Out went a small dace and as I manoeuvred the float away from a decent sized drifting clump of reeds the float jagged and slid off. No audible plop but definitely perchy. It was. Probably a pound and a dark green with scarlet fins. I'm going to like this autumn I think.
