Saturday was minging, had half an hour on the river for some dace before it poured again but did find some nice deeper runs for another day.
Sunday minged too but I did take the Little Un's to catch some crayfish on classic crabbing tactics. Bacon it has to be they told me. It worked. Out Two Terriers way it's mitten crabs. Now they are big, mean critters.
We appear to have the dreaded signal crayfish up here now, but I've not got on to the bank. Never thought of using bacon to catch them. Might try it to see if that's what keeps knocking the rod tip about.
ReplyDeleteThey can strip a sardine down to cartoon head, bones and tail. Rather like my plate of sardines once done with..they even reach up grab trotted baits. And they can draw blood.
DeleteBB, the Mitten Crabs tunnel into the bank to make a home, I think they're in the creek at the tidal end. Those crayfish are good to eat though. Speak soon, John
ReplyDeleteWould be nice with garlic butter John. When it stops raining.....
DeleteI see them a lot in the streams...they are fine eating.
ReplyDeleteWe are not supposed to return the signal Crays but we're not supposed to catch them either..
